Martin Gries was born in 1972. He has worked as an author of
textbooks and children’s books, and a consultant on further
education at non-profit institutions all over Germany. He is head
of education of the non-profit young people’s literature initiative
Bücherpiraten e. V. and offers children and young people there time
for stories: that could mean 16-year-olds organising their own
literary event, nine-year-olds awarding a literary prize or
14-year-olds forming author groups and write their own novels.
The Bücherpiraten (literally, Book Pirates) have been hailed as one of the best children’s culture projects in Germany and, as such, won several awards.
