Hans de Beer

Hans de Beer was born in the small village of Muiden near Amsterdam, Holland, in 1957. He had already begun drawing at middle school. After studying history for a short time, he attended the Rietvel Art Academy in Amsterdam and completed his training in 1984. He has been working as a freelance illustrator ever since, producing various different series for children's magazines in Holland. For his final exam, he produced a picture book about a polar bear that has somehow got lost in the Tropics, which was then published by Nord-Süd in 1987 and immediately became a huge success.
Today, Hans de Beer lives in Amsterdam and also has a second home near Florence, Italy.
