Gitte Spee
Gitte Spee was born in Surabaya, Indonesia, in 1950 and has been
living in the Netherlands since she was eleven. She held a variety
of jobs – working as a photo lab assistant, typist, telephonist and
secretary – before attending the Gerrit Rierveld Academy in
Amsterdam when she was 27. That’s something she has never regretted
because, since 1983 (the year she graduated), she has had the best
job she can imagine: she’s an illustrator. Sometimes she writes the
text to go with her own pictures and that’s best of all!
